Under a beautiful winter sky Paul Williams and Terry Belton have triumphed in their respective divisions of the January Medal. Playing in Division A, long hitting Williams had a nice run going round the front nine till disaster struck on hole 9 as he recorded a double bogey 6 and an outward half of 42. His fortunes changed somewhat starting the back nine and it was not till hole 16 that he dropped his first shot for that half and unfortunately set the trend for the remaining two holes as two more bogeys followed. Paul finished with a 75 nett and a one shot buffer from his nearest competitor Mr Graham Farrington.

Farrington is the hottest golfer in the Club at present and with this podium finish has elevated himself over Zenia Wivou into top spot on The Golfer of the Year table and separates himself by some 30 points. Simon Tyldsley looks like he has bounced back to form as he filled the minor places, losing to Graham on a countback as Graham had the better back nine score.

In Division B it was bamboo legs Belton all the way, displaying some youthful exuberance to shoot a stunning 40 stableford points and a runaway win from Mark Reid. Belton who rarely gets to the course these days apart from the odd social outing was a model of inconsistency on the day and one can only marvel at what he may have shot had he been in full control of his game. That being said, he did craft a masterful 40 stableford points despite the spattering of inconsistency that led him to miss 4 opportunities to record a score, welcome to A Grade Telboy.....

Gentle Giant Mark Reid silently goes about his business finishing in Second Place on the day with 37 stableford points and another 80 points for his troubles going towards The Golfer of the Year table. Reid much like Belton had a couple of indifferent experiences, notably holes 9 and 18 where he failed to record any scores after donating a couple of shiny new titleist to the watery grave yard. Third Place had a Finnish flavour to it as Risto Painio our resident speed freak sped into position for the first time in a big boys comp, shooting 31 stableford points and a much needed shot of confidence.
