Shukla Shines as Starkie Staggers
Ashutosh Shukla continues to improve as he was crowned the Champion of the social stableford irons only on Wednesday the 24th of February. This week the boys were able to play from the ladies tees but had a slight variation to their handicap compared to the girls but that did little to deter Shukla as he stormed around in 24 pts.
Chris Parry finished in 2nd Place on 23 pts and seems to have de-scaled some of the barnacles that have been building up on his golf game of late, striding around the back nine in a 1 over par 37 gross. The bubbly Scot, Gillian Wright bounded into 3rd place for yet another podium finish and a shot of confidence ahead of the February Medal.
No Wednesday individual event is complete without the Wooden Spoon being presented to the most challenged golfer on the night. This week there was a new derriere to be spanked in the form of the upbeat character that is Brian Starkie. Brian was abysmal to say the least but the shot that caused him the most pain was a 63ft mood altering double bogey putt on hole 17 to record his solitary point for the night.
Brian’s amber effervescent glow continued long into the evening as the trauma of the game slowly faded to happier thoughts, such as another day at work and another week between games of golf, chin up Brian. Terry Belton scooped the vouchers for the pins as he won both the 12th and 16th and one can only wonder how legs can get lucky twice in an evening.
